The purpose of Leadership Training is to equip both clergy and laity for service in mission and ministry within the local church, district, and conference. Presenters will address several different ministry areas and discuss how to meet the needs of those areas in the local church, the connection of the UMC and the world. Learn how Discipleship and Servant Leadership work hand-in-hand by attending one of these workshops:

THE STAFF/PARISH RELATIONS COMMITTEE Rev. Dr. Kyung-Hee Sa, Dover District Superintendent The responsibilities of the SPRC; the importance of confidentiality in personnel issues; the process for the Pastor’s Performance Review; establishing pastoral compensation; an overview of the pastoral appointment process; and strengthening the ministry covenant and “goal setting ” will be addressed.

THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES Rev. Bruce Rogers, Long Neck UMC, Millsboro, DE Review the structure, responsibility and relationship of the Board of Trustees in local churches; including legal issues, the importance of the incorporation of the local church, comprehensive insurance coverage, and other property matters.

THE FINANCE COMMITTEE Mr. William Westbrook, Peninsula-Delaware Conference Treasurer Explore compensation issues, the differing functions of the offices of Financial Secretary and Treasurer, and learn how a local church can create vital internal controls in the handling of funds.

MISSIONINSITE/STRATEGIC PLANNING PROCESS Rev. Jim Penuel, Union UMC, Bridgeville, DE MissionInsite is a powerful tool that is free for use in all of the churches in our Conference. It is a program that gives us a wealth of demographic information of all types concerning our communities. How do we use this information and form ministries and strategic plans based upon the information gleaned from mission insite? How do we develop strategic plans based upon the “assessment” aspect of the strategic planning process, with the use of this tool? We will explore these questions and more in this class.

Quit avoiding the topic – how you can assist your loved one in prison? You’d be surprised who’s in prison (Internet crime is crime). What can our local Churches do to help?

We will examine the challenges and fruitfulness of past and ongoing partnerships on the Dover District, and resource one another for improving and creating new ones.

CONNECTIONAL GIVING FOR MISSION Ray Yarnall, Wesley UMC, Dover, DE Learn how our Apportionment funds enable us to do together what we could not do alone as one church, district or annual conference. Learn how through our Connectional Giving we are connected to others in the Methodist faith throughout God’s Kingdom.

THE LAY LEADER: CONNECTING THE BODY OF CHRIST IN MINISTRY Nancy Libertini, Lay Leader Union UMC Bridgeville, Dover District Prayer Team, MS: Pastoral Counseling All too often, individuals are called to serve but not truly given the guidance that is needed. No other ministry calling appears to be less defined by our churches than that of Lay Leader, yet the guidance is clearly put forth through the Discipline of the UMC. Through prayer and faithfulness, the Great Counselor will infuse your spirit with wisdom and love for His children in your church. Come! Together we will examine the Discipline. Each participant in this class will receive the Guidelines to Ministry for Lay Leader. We will embrace the gifts of the Holy Spirit and empower one another to walk in ministry with the pastor and the leaders of each church, as responsibilities are clearly understood. Each member will leave equipped with the tools necessary to become the Lay Leader called for ministry in his/her own church.
